I saw a question posed on Facebook. “What are the things you should never say on a first date?”

I laughed hard, because I recalled an awkward first date where the guy I’d met up with at a restaurant told me without any preamble, “First of all, I have to say that I won’t marry a woman my mother doesn’t like.”

I was instantly turned off, and that was the last time I set eyes on him. ?

So, to celebrate first dates in romance fiction, I’ll be sharing snippets of first date scenes in my novels.

Here’s Yomi and Emem’s first date at a theatre, watching a play.

Yomi chuckled at the hysterical way the actor clung to the synthetic tree branch, shaking his head vehemently and ignoring the entreaties of his family.

“This is one of my favourite parts of the book,” Emem whispered into his ear. “I remember laughing out loud when I read this scene.”

Her warm breath against his skin ignited a fiery path down his body, causing a flow of blood to tighten his groin.

He shifted in his seat, glad for the semidarkness that hid his uncontrollable physical response to her.

An intense desire to kiss her overwhelmed him, but he pushed back that need.
