“You claim to be the king of goat meat pepper soup. Oya order for me,” she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement when the waiter got to them.

“I bet that after eating here tonight, you will be so addicted that they’ll have to beg you to go home,” Ikenna responded, laughing.

While they waited for their food to arrive, they allowed the pleasant conversation to flow easily between them. Adaora found that she was no longer anxious about this outing with Ikenna as she sipped on her glass of white Zinfandel and swayed gently in her seat.

Ikenna’s eyes fixated on her. He could see no one else. He enjoyed watching her move to the music. He enjoyed watching her, full-stop.

“The band is great,” Adaora said, taking another sip of her drink.

“Yeah, they play quite well,” he agreed. “Reminds me of the club where I used to perform in Enugu…. Ahhhh nostalgia.”

A moment of silence passed between them as their eyes locked and their minds transported them back to the many pleasant memories they had shared in that club.

Adaora felt her face grow warm and she looked away. Does he still kiss with such intensity? she wondered as she took a sip from her glass. Her throat suddenly felt quite dry
