Hello guys. Hope you’re all doing great. This week, I’ll be sharing an excerpt from The Senator’s Daughter.
This is the scene where Rita woke up to find herself Nosa Edosa’s prisoner. She’d just tried and failed to escape.
“How long do you plan to keep me here? What do I do to keep myself busy while you plan my murder?”
He turned to face her directly, his eyes fierce with what seemed a mixture of regret and determination. “I’ll never hurt you, Rita.” His gaze pierced hers as he said that.
Rita’s heart rate escalated. She believed him. She believed this stranger instantly. It was bizarre that without his providing any evidence to convince her, she believed he wouldn’t hurt her.
“I don’t believe you,” Rita lied. “You have brought me here against my will, yet you want to convince me you don’t have plans to hurt me?”
“I’m sorry you are here. And trust me when I say I wish it didn’t have to come to this. You will be here until your father does the right thing.”
“So, this is about my father. Are you his political rival? Is this about politics?”
“No…it’s about justice, Rita. Not politics.” He paused, looking as if he wanted to elaborate on the topic, but appeared to change his mind. “Try to eat some food. Press the intercom button by the bed if you need me. I’ll be back with lunch otherwise.”
Without another word, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving Rita standing there, still nonplussed about why she was his prisoner.
I hope you enjoyed this. Please leave a comment.
