First kisses— Thorns And Roses

This week, I’ll be sharing the first kiss between Ifeoma and Chuma from the #RomanceNovel, Thorns And Roses.

This scene happened after they returned from a boat ride that Chuma had convinced Ifeoma she needed for relaxation.

They were friends at first, but this kiss may have completely changed the dynamics of their relationship.

She placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

Chuma was startled by the sudden physical contact.

Ifeoma appeared shocked by her own impulsivity.

Slowly, she turned towards him so that they were facing each other. He could see the pulse at the base of her neck pounding. It matched the rapid pounding of his own heart.

She kissed his other cheek and retreated, giving him a nervous smile. Chuma froze, not moving, not trusting himself to move.

Rapid emotions filtered through her large expressive eyes; surprise, fear, panic. And then he saw desire.

Placing her palms on his chest, Ifeoma touched her lips to his. A very soft touch and then retreated again.

Chuma tried to keep still, his body was ablaze with want, but he couldn’t move, didn’t want to. It was killing him, but he didn’t want to do anything to drive this moment along.

He waited, his heart fluttering at a dangerous rate, his body alert and poised. She repeated the kiss, this time flickering her tongue over his lips.

This pushed Chuma over an invisible edge, and with a deep groan, he captured her mouth with his.

An alternative narrative

This picture puts a huge smile on my face. I saw it on Instagram and had to share.

I don’t know any of these women but they all graduated as medical doctors in a University in Northern Nigeria.

From their attires, I believe they are beautiful Muslim women.

Why am I pleased?

This is an alternative narrative showcasing educated Muslim women from Northern Nigeria—A narrative not often shared.

I must confess, I grew up mostly in southern Nigeria, and have very little experience of the core Northern women, their lives, struggles and triumphs.

All I know is from second hand information and the media. And that narrative is of subdued women who rarely have the chance to get a good education.

There may be women who are in that category, but this picture shows a different story. And I’m here for it.

It’s inspired a novella in my head.

I’ll need a beta reader who knows about the Northern part of Nigeria and about Islamic religion with respect to women well enough to guide me, so that I can tell that story properly.

Happy anniversary to Love Africa Press!

It’s no secret that I love romance novels. 😊

When I was a teenager, I searched actively for romance novels with African characters that looked like me and found very few.

Now, the romance genre in Africa is growing and awareness that there are many stories about the continent to be told is increasing.

There’s not only war, strife, political division and corruption, there’s also love, romance, family, marriage, divorce, education and so on.

One year ago, Love Africa Press (LAP) joined the narrative of promoting African love stories. And I’ve published 2 books with LAP.

The family of awesome romance authors is growing rapidly, and I’m grateful to be a part of that family.

We are celebrating!

Join us on Friday September 6 as we celebrate Love Africa Press’s one year anniversary in the Love Africa Book Lounge Facebook group.

Event starts at noon (London BST) and runs until midnight. Please see graphic for timezones.

See you there!👇
